3 arrested, 3 sought in border kidnapping

Fun and games on the border continue.

LAREDO — Three men were arrested here and three others were being sought in the kidnapping and shooting of a U.S. citizen across the border in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, federal officials said Thursday.

Mario Jesus Obregon, 39, Mauricio Bartoni, 19, and Christopher Jaime Cardenas, 23, all of Laredo, were arrested Wednesday, the FBI said in a news release.

Six men are suspected of kidnapping 26-year-old Mateo Ezequiel Valiente Solis from his home in Laredo and taking him across the international border into Mexico, where he was shot twice and left for dead on the bank of the Rio Grande, a federal official said.

Valiente survived the Feb. 17 attack and was treated at a Nuevo Laredo hospital before being transferred to a Laredo hospital this week.

The trio are expected to appear before a federal judge this morning.

The other suspects, also from Laredo and described as armed and dangerous by the FBI, remain at large: Ruben Saucedo Cabrera, 25, Enrique Adriano, 30, and Rogelio Isai Garcia, 25.
